"Kids, Cords, Caution":
Have Your Clients Gotten the Message?

This information comes from an article by Linda Henry from the Window Fashions magazine published in October 2004. You can visit www.window-fashions.com for more information.

According to The 2004/2005 Outlook for the U.S. Window Coverings Market , 90% of Americans are now aware that pull cords on certain draperies and window blinds can pose a strangulation hazard to infants and young children. However, only 77% are aware of the dangers posed by the interior cords that run through the slats of some window blinds.

In 2003, sixteen children died due to window-cord strangulation. Over the past three years, the grim statistic has been almost one child every month.

In 2000, the industry became aware that inner cords had been involved in several deaths, and developed a way to repair inner cords on blinds made before 2000, changed the standard for inner cords produced thereafter. The WCSC provides free repair kits, including cord stops, tassels, tie-downs, and safety information, which can be obtained by calling 800-506-4636 or from their website at www.windowcoverings.org.

R-value and Honeycomb Shades

Winter time is here. Snow may be falling and the wind may be blowing, but your clients will be toasty and warm with Kensington Honeycomb Shades. The average American household spends about 50% of its energy costs in heating and cooling their home.

Honeycomb Shades provide the highest R-value of window coverings and can block as much as 62% of heat transfer through a window pane.

R-value measures a material's resistance to heat flow, both heat gain and loss. A high R-value means you will lose less heat in the winter and less air conditioning in the summer.

Warm your clients up this winter to the rich colors of energy saving Kensington Honeycomb Shades!

Horizontal Shadings - New Equalization Method

All 2” vane and 3” vane Kensington Horizontal Window Shadings now come with a quick and easy equalizing bottom rail end cap.

If the window is not square, the bottom rail may fall slightly higher on one
side. To equalize with this new bottom rail, simply remove the end caps by pulling directly out. You will find 2 small weights in each end cap tray. Remove one weight from the lower side, add to the side that is sitting
higher and replace end caps. Continue to adjust until the Window Shading is even.
